Hi! My name is Richard Wood. I first founded kapchur.us photography in 2011 with Josh Whalen. Josh has since moved to North Carolina and I've taken the company on to new places on my own.
So, how did I get here? I loved my cats. Yup! I got into photography because I adopted a kitten from the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee. And on their blog they presented amazing photos and personality profiles of the kittens they were adopting out. Well, I wanted their readers to be able to "keep up" with Phyllis (my first kitten from them, there were later two more).
First started with my point-and-shoot. Wasn't satisfied so I bought an inexpensive dSLR (Canon XTi I believe). That was ok, so I got a nice flash. Things were getting much better! Got a slightly better lens! NOW we were cooking with gas!
I think this first dSLR was purchased in... 2007? Then in 2010, I decided I was diving into photography head first investing in a Canon 7D, a nicer flash, a handful of great lenses and started taking my camera everywhere with me to shoot various events, always for free. I quickly discovered that taking a nice photo was only 50% of making a great photo. You still needed to know post-editing.
So, for all of 2010 I photographed anything I could, usually events. I would shoot club events, social events, business association events that I was already attending. It didn't take long for the compliments to start rolling in.
In June 2011, I photographed my first wedding as a second shooter with Stephanie Haller. She is an inspiration! I've always admired her photography and I was so excited when she allowed me to help her photograph an amazing, beautiful wedding at the Seattle Tennis Club. Since that day, I discovered I love shooting weddings! I LOVE LOVE! I love feeling in love, love seeing people in love, love inspiring love, just love love! :)
Yes, occasionally I take some landscape photos, but I don't find those as fun. First off, many of the views that I try to shoot have been done a thousand times, by a thousand different photographers. Also, the landscape doesn't interact with me the same way my wedding/event subjects do!
All in all, I'm a people person! I enjoy meeting new people, learning from people and having fun with people. I love to kapchur that special moment
